Who doesn’t like to be pampered? Manicures and pedicures do something for our image. Showing off rings with nails done gives a whole new meaning to fancy. Open toe shoes describe no matter the time of year..harsh winters or blazing hot summer why we get our pedicures.
I love getting manicures and pedicures, but they would only last a week before the polish began to chip. Well the heavenly clouds opened and gel nail polish was born. World-wide the cheers could be heard, nail polish that last forever and never chips!! Thank you!! What wasn’t told was the lurking danger from gel nail polish.
Medical blogs to fashion blogs made the plug to advise against getting gel manicures. The story is not to scare you but to make you think. Health should always come before beauty. The gel nail polish is set/harden by placing both hands under an ultraviolet light.
The ultraviolet light is essentially or equivalent exposing our hands to sunlight without sunscreen. Renowned dermatologists and other medical professionals have warned society about the dangers of exposed skin to the sun. Skin cancer if not treated early can be fatal.
Skin cancer affects all skin tones. Dark skinned complexions have a false sense of security when it comes to skin cancer.
The myth that darker skinned complexions are immune is false. Melanoma skin cancer is very dangerous if not caught early. 75% of skin cancer deaths are a result of Melanoma not caught in the early stages.
Holiday parties will be in full swing. I want to share health tips so everyone can enjoy a healthy holiday season. Please be mindful to protect your skin when getting a gel manicure!
Safe holiday season!!
